The opportunity to surround the viewer and illuminate them at the same time is a privilege. The efoort is to create structures that leap and bound in an organic fashion, and also retain their rigid shape. With an Eiffel Tower-like structure of tension and compression, these arching, self-standing constructions create and define spaces while whimsically sprouting from the floor and blossoming overhead like fireworks. The Lightwings use satellite dishes as reflectors and lampholders, creating an inherent familiarity to the overall piece. The Lightwing shown stands 12.5′ high projecting out 15′.
